According to Pane, these elites use multifaceted and insidious methods to maintain their grip on power. He outlines a strategy that includes indoctrination, conditioning and the strategic use of fear. Education, for instance, is not designed to foster critical thinking but to produce obedient workers.

“Our schools are not designed to create critical thinkers, but rather obedient workers,” Pane asserts. “From a young age, we’re taught to memorize facts, follow rules and compete with each other, rather than question authority or challenge the status quo.”

The media, Pane argues, serves as a mouthpiece for the elite, promoting narratives that serve their interests.
“The media, he says, is a tool used to shape our perceptions and keep us in line,” Pane states. “Whether it’s the fear of terrorism, economic collapse or social unrest, these threats are often exaggerated or manufactured to keep us compliant.”

This fear is then used to justify increased surveillance, military spending and the erosion of civil liberties, all of which serve to consolidate power in the hands of the few. Perhaps the most unsettling of Pane’s claims is his assertion that the United States is not a true democracy but a plutocracy – a government run by the wealthy, for the wealthy.

Corporate lobbyists, the revolving door between government and big business and the lack of genuine representation for the average citizen are all evidence of this plutocratic system.

The two-party political system, Pane suggests, is a facade designed to give the illusion of choice, while both parties are beholden to the same corporate interests. Pane introduces the concept of the “Corporate State,” a system where corporations wield immense power and influence over government and society.

“Corporations have become the new monarchs, dictating policy, shaping public opinion and controlling the flow of information,” Pane argues. This, he says, is the true nature of the modern American state, where the interests of the corporate elite take precedence over the populace’s well-being.
